Home in the sense that we get to see old friends, revisit, visit nostalgic places, talk about old memories, etc.
A few highlights so far....
We love IL. We really do. God has given us a great home, great church, awesome friends, amazing ministry and a huge love for the students at the U of I. But nonetheless, it is always great to be "home" Home in the sense that we get to see old friends, revisit, visit nostalgic places, talk about old memories, etc. A few highlights so far.... Seeing all the KATIES from the UWEC Navs (this is just a small fraction of all of them... ;) Noah getting to see two of his best friends from college: Carl and Jesse Meeting Norah Kate Clochesy. Her parents (Jeff and Jess) were on staff with us at the U of I and now are leading the ministry in Eau Claire. Time with some dear Nav friends from UWEC. I lived with these girls, was in bible study, etc etc. I LOVE these girls! Visited a favorite UWEC site: The ROCK! :) Spent time with JACK (Jolie, Abby, Colleen, Katie). These are the first girls I met on campus. The girls that got me through all the difficulties of my freshman year and have loved me and laughed with me ever since! I love these girls!!! Noah got do do a lot of fun things too! Including playing ultimate frisbee, spending the night in his old dorm (Bridgman) with his brother, disc golfing, seeing his good friend Jordan's house, etc. etc. He just didn't take as many pictures ;) ha!

The answer is BOTH! The area of campus that Noah and I are focusing on primarily is affectionately known as, "The 6-Pack". (Six large dorms on the Champaign side of campus.) This summer our mission field has been turned into a construction zone. They tore down two large dining halls that were in the center of the block so it looks more like a disaster than a place a new freshman would be anxious to call home :)
Nonetheless in less than a month (August 19th) thousands of freshman students will be moving in to these dorms. Noah and I have spent much time in this area walking and praying for the Lord to do great things here. We are praying for the students that will be moving in. We are praying for God to put us in contact with many students living in these buildings that want to know more about Him. We are praying to connect with students in the 6-pack that we have something in common with. We are asking the Lord to go before us in this very place! There are also about 15 students who were involved with us last year who are returning to live in these dorms. We are praying that God will connect them with roommates, neighbors and floor-mates that are open to the gospel. Will you join us in praying for the students that will soon be calling this construction zone their home? Just so you know... there is a perk to all of this work and mess. The picture below is the new dining hall that was built to replace the two that were torn down. It looks like a beautiful building. We are anxious to get inside when it finally opens on August 15. Almost a month has passed without an update. I guess it goes to show that our summer is much busier than we expected! We are getting a lot of work done, gettingsome rest, and having lots of fun! Here are some highlights of our summer happenings. A great time in Platteville visiting our niece Claire. She sure is growing up! What a cutie!! A chance to see my Grandma & Grandpa Rogers. They are a very special couple, they recently celebrated 66 years of marriage. WOW! A baby shower for my dear friend Jen. She is due July 23rd. :) We've gotten into some cheese tasting-- about time, since we both grew up in WI and still eat colby jack and provolone :) A trip to Lincoln's home in Springfield and the Lincoln museum with Katie's parents and the Fleschs (family friends of the Rogers.) A great visit from Josh and Colleen (UW-Eau Claire friends) including a tubing trip on the Kickapoo River. Along with all of our work time on campus, a chance to play Kubb on the quad. |
