campus lingo

I don't know if any of you will enjoy reading this... but the more I got thinking... the more I realized that whether you know it or not, each campus has some sort of lingo. I guess it is just kind of learned as you go along and you don't think anything of it.... until you go to a different campus:) Here it goes..

For example...In Eau Claire you either live on campus or off-campus. Here there is six-pack, urbana side of campus, campus property management, private housing, etc etc. It all is so much more complicated! I haven't found someone yet who can name all of the residence hall options.

In Eau Claire if you are taking the bus- there is a very good chance you are taking the bus up the hill. Here there are so many routes and such a huge system that you can text a code for each bus stop and get a text back with all of the bus route options. I don't know much but I know 4E Blue gets me to campus and 4W Blue gets me home. Just don't ask where all the stops are :)

In college I usually took about 16 credits.. since being here I haven't heard the word credits. It is all about how many HOURS you are taking.

Speaking of classes... we had a TA strike in November and tons of classes were canceled because a lot of them are taught by TA's. I don't remember having a TA in any of my classes, let alone having them teach it.

We ate lunch in a cafeteria on campus on Sunday. One student who is a junior here had never even BEEN in this cafeteria. In Eau Claire-there are only TWO cafeteria choices. We have all been in them way too many times. Here there are so many choices... your meal plan works in all of the university dorms, but most people frequent the cafeteria in their own dorm.

Speaking of meal plans... ever heard of a swipe? We always said "How many meals do you have left?" Here it is said, "Sure you can come, I have another swipe." This just cracks me up!

The one difference that has been by far the most irritating is that all of the dorms here are locked and you have to get someone to let you in. Hence you rarely get random visitors and hardly ever get notes on your whiteboards. Those things were one of the highlights of college for me... and I miss being able to do this a lot!

I guess..... I'll be done with my list for now... but there's one more difference I should note. I have never seen so much ORANGE in my life! I have represented WI with pride (don't you worry!) But I will admit I have orange, have been to different sporting events and have found myself cheering "GO ILLINI!" or even humming along to the fight song...
