Noah's Friday Update: 5/10/13

Life-on-Life

This is the phrase we often use to describe our ministry to those who aren't familiar with it.  The point being that while our ministry includes many "programmatic" elements like large-group meetings, conferences, workshops, etc -- the bread and butter of our ministry is sharing life with our students.  We point to Jesus and the way He shared life with His disciples...

And he appointed twelve (whom he also named apostles) so that they might be with him and he might send them out to preach...Mark 3:14

Many times this involves meeting across the table from an individual student, teaching, encouraging, exhorting, and opening the Scriptures together.  Sometimes it means sharing the gospel side-by-side with a friend or stranger.  Sometimes it means one of our guys helping me replace the storm windows on our house with screens, or a girl helping Katie prepare a meal for an event.

The end of the semester and graduation of many of our students has opened up many unique opportunities for life-on-life ministry.  These last two weeks have or will involve:

• attending an Illinois baseball game to watch the three Nav students who play on the team (one's now a record holder!)
• a graduation ceremony for one of our students
• an engagement party for two of our students
• a ceremony commissioning one of our grads as an officer in the US Air Force

Would Jesus have attended the ceremony if one of his disciples was graduating from college?  I think so!  We're blessed to take part closely in our students lives, often as their "second parents".
